Frigate Fantastic! by calamitySi Frigate Fantastic! by calamitySi
A collection of frigates starting with:

The UNSC 'In Amber Clad'
The UNSC 'Forward Unto Dawn'
The UNSC 'Savannah'
and finally
The UNSC 'Nevada'

This picture is meant to demonstrate the lineage of the design as it's progressed through the Halo games alongside my rendition of what the next step would look like. All models shown here are made by Grave Heart, apart from the Nevada.

I've thought up my own frigate called the 'Bandit'

That's cool. Is she your own design or one of the designs shown above?

:icongroundzero099:
Yea she only has 6 turrets, 2 on each side, 1 on the front and 1 on the back, a MAC cannon as usual and two stolen plasma turrets on the front, one either side of the MAC cannon, which is where she gets the name 'Bandit' from. (She is a modified Paris Class Frigate though...)

Yeah, I've made up a story where when she was being built the Covenant attacked the yard. She held off a CC-S battle cruiser with only two turrets. Not the plasma ones as well!

You can definitly see the differences in the ships. The UNSC operated numorous frigate variants which despite similar appearances had varying capabilities. My favorite is the Nevada, she looks like a real beast.

Thanks man,  I designed her a while ago and I still get loads of interest in her. My rendering skills have come a ling way since then...I may have to make some new artwork with her.

any ship called the Nevada should only be allowed to fire nukes at the enemy. :P

Okay so how would the Nevada stand up against Covenant warships?

:iconcalamitysi:

I'dd say that she'd be able to go toe-to-toe with a covenant frigate and come out roughly on parr.

So the Covenant tech advantage still holds but its been blunted abit eh.

the first three are different frigate classes, Stalwart class for "In Amber Clad", Charon class for "Forward Unto Dawn" and Paris class for "Savannah"

Nicely done! When I first saw the thumbnail, I immediately thought of the Sulaco, though it's probably no accident considering how influential "Aliens" is for any sort of sci-fi/action work. All that said, I do like the Naval ship designs in the Halo games, plus the names are catchy too.

Is it just me, or do they resemble rifles? That's what I thought they were at first...

One of the novels even describes the ships as giant rifles.

Wow you guys are fast, I only just uploaded this! Lol! Yeah I've researched this topic a little and the ships from Halo were heavily influenced by the Sulaco from the 'Aliens' movie. I actually blended the Sulaco and the frigate designs together to make a ship called the 'Lewis and Clark'.

Oh btw, the Sulaco from 'Aliens' was based around the look of a rifle, hence why they ALL look like giant guns. Actually, the ships from Halo carry massive cannons inside them. When they fire, the whole ship literally has to 'point and shoot' so in many ways, they all kinda ARE rifles. Just big ones with engines!

It's not actually that low tech. Magnetic Kinetic Energy weapons are very powerful, and the larger the size and mass of the round, the more destruction.

yes, but in comparison to particle weapons, they are lower on the scale of tech advancement,

your right they aren't low tech, but i was saying they are in comparison to most breeds of particle energy weapons
